Urling’s Publications began life in September, 1996. The principal, C. John Urling, Jr., has over 40 years of multi-jurisdictional experience in all phases of workers compensation. After graduating with honors from Bethany College with a BA in economics, he worked various claims positions for the next 11  years at Liberty Mutual Insurance Company where he trained adjusters and rose to the level of Home Office Examiner. He obtained the designation of Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) in 1968 and was elected President of the Allegheny Chapter of the Society of CPCU.

He has also served as:

Director, Pennsylvania Bureau of Workers’ Compensation

Consultant to the workers compensation offices in The District of Columbia, Delaware, Mississippi, Texas, New Mexico, Louisiana, Connecticut, Maine, California, Florida, Tennessee and the U.S. Department of Labor.

Lecturer at Pennsylvania Bar Association and American Bar Association meetings as well as most employer, labor, claims and insurer associations.

President of the Eastern Association of Industrial Accident Boards.

President of the International Association of Industrial Accident Boards and Commissions.

Commissioner, Pennsylvania Workmen’s Compensation Appeal Board.

After departing the Appeal Board in July, 1996, he recognized the need to assist the workers compensation community with computer based tools and established Urling's Publications. "We need to remove the drudgery so we can get on with the primary business of compensating injured workers and moving them from disability back to meaningful work."
